Message to Members December 2017
Greetings of the season! Hope Thanksgiving was a happy holiday for everyone, and that the coming holiday season is peaceful and enjoyable.
It was a successful fall for our organization, and we thank you for your part in it — volunteers, team members, and dues-paying supporters. The Victorian Fair went well, although we continued our trend towards small numbers of new voter registrations. We also had a few new members stop for information, and we were excited to register a brand new citizen. It has become easier to register to vote with online access and RMV registration, so we expect fewer registrations the old fashioned way, but we are happy to maintain a presence at the fair and be a source of information.
The League produced a successful Candidates Forum for a live audience at City Hall and we were proud of the participation and the appreciative comments we received. There were a lot of contested seats in our local elections this year, and this was an opportunity to see and hear the candidates answer community questions. MMTV filmed the Forum and it was available for viewing on our local cable channel, and on our website, as well as streaming via internet.
We sponsored a team in the Annual Walk and Candlelight Vigil of the Melrose Alliance Against Violence and were one of the top fund-raising teams for this good cause. We also held two days of voter registration at the high school in October, and offered rides to the polls on Election Day.
The next activity for the League will be the annual Martin Luther King Day potluck and celebration, to be held on January 15, 2018. All our events should be on our website, so please check it out to stay in touch. All members are always welcome to contact any member of the Steering Committee, or come to any of our meetings, with questions, comments and suggestions.
Enjoy the season. See you in the new year!
